Everything you need to know about planning your Kumana National Park safari tour.

The prime birdwatching season runs from April to July when tens of thousands of migratory and resident birds nest at Kumana Villu swamp. For leopard and elephant tracking, the dry season between June and September offers the highest visibility around remaining waterholes and lakes.

Kumana's main entrance (Okanda Gate) is approximately 45 to 60 minutes south of Arugam Bay and Panama. We provide convenient private pick-up and drop-off from all hotels, guesthouses, and resorts in Arugam Bay, Pottuvil, and Panama.

All our packages include a private, customized 4x4 safari jeep with elevated 360-degree viewing seats, a licensed local wildlife tracker/guide, fuel, park entrance permit assistance, and chilled refreshments. Full-day tours also include packed jungle breakfast and a traditional Sri Lankan lunch.

Kumana (historically known as Yala East) shares the same thriving wildlife population of leopards, elephants, and sloth bears as Yala, but experiences significantly less vehicle traffic. It provides a peaceful, intimate wildlife encounter without crowded jeep queues.

Wear lightweight, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, beige). Bring a sun hat, UV sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, and your camera or binoculars. A light morning layer is recommended for crisp dawn departures.
